In 1986 Lions Club International changed their constitution to allow women to become Lions Club members.  Prior to that time women were relegated to the Lioness Club program.  Although there are still Lions Clubs without women members, the vast majority of Lions Clubs have learned the value of women members to their club.  Men and women working together is not something new, it happens every day in our homes and in our work place.

The value of women to a Lions Club is great!  More hands means more help, new ideas and sometimes a very different perspective to an old project.  Now, with the implementation by Lions Clubs International of the "Family Membership Dues Rate", wives and other family members have much to gain by becoming Lions.

Lion Clubs have many different projects; there is something for everybody and if a woman who joins a Lions Club doesn't find a project to her liking, she can always start a new one!

Lioness converting to Lions were allowed to take their years of service into their Lions Club but it was just recently announced that Lions Clubs International has elected to give former Lioness credit for the club offices that they held, i.e. Club President or Secretary, to name just a few.  As a former Lioness Club president, a woman may now serve as a district officer without having served as a Lions Club president.  Advancement is unlimited to those former Lioness Club member, as it is  to all women Lion Club members.  In our own district we have  had two women serving in that capacity.  This year a woman serves as district governor of District 4-L6 and District 4-C4 has a woman vice-district governor.

Women, put your service where it will do the most good and gain the most recognition.  Lions Clubs members, tap that "well" of under utilized hands - ask at woman to join your Lions Club.
