District Level
A. PURPOSE: To provide recognition to that Lion who most distinguishes
himself an active and contributing member of the District and as a Lion.
B. NOMINATIONS
- Names and qualifications of the nominee shall be submitted to the Club's
Board of Directors and once approved, forwarded to the District Awards
Chairman and to their Region Chairman.
- Entries must be postmarked on or before April 1st, prior to the District
Convention.
- The Region Chairman of each Region shall be responsible to see that at
least one (1) nominee is submitted from his region.
C. ELIGIBILITY
The candidate must meet the following basic qualifications.
- Must be a member in good standing of Lions International and must have
been a member of a local Club in District 4-C1 for at least six (6) months.
- Must be current in the Club obligations of attendance, dues, and committee
assignments.
- Must not be a District Governor or an Immediate Past District Governor.
- Must have not previously received District 4-C1 Lion of the Year award.
D. JUDGING
- Judging for Lion of the Year shall be by five (5) Lions: The District
Awards Chairman, and the four (4) Region Chairman.
- Judges shall not inform any outside parties of their selection prior to
the official announcement at the District Convention.
- Names of runners up and their relative standings will not be released.
- All accomplishments considered by the judges MUST have taken place during
the current fiscal year. An accumulation of accomplishments in prior years
or over a great number of years will not be considered.
- The panel shall have a wide latitude in this selection of criteria with
which to measure the candidates, but shall taken into account the following
factors when making determinations:
- attendance record
- membership awards
- other Lion Awards
- membership development
- meeting participation
- program participation
- committee participation
- his or her activities
- leadership
- office
- quality of work
- volume of work
- ability to communicate
- organizational ability
- cooperation with fellow Lions
- dependability
- sincerity of purpose
- attitude
- such other performance and/or activities that may be considered in
the furtherance of Lionism.
It shall be up to the panel to assign appropriate weights and select a winner
based on overall excellence, rather then making a selection by using a rigid
point system.
